Issue No. 14: Notes From The Studio
Paris Inspiration, Netflix Binges, + A Sneak Peek of New Art
Bonjour!
I’ve been working on some new paintings in my studio that I’m super excited to share with you. I have also finally put together my first blog post of inspiration I gathered from my recent trip to France.
I’m focusing on Paris in this first post — street scenes, rooftops, and architecture mostly. That’s what I usually notice when I’m traveling — small moments, color palettes, shapes. These are the kinds of things that are going to show up in new artwork that I create, even when it’s not intentional. I truly take these things in when I visit a city and express them later.
After you finish this newsletter, view the post here: Inspired by Travel: Paris, France.
Color inspiration from France showed up in my most recent series The Monochromatic Collection — the two green paintings have found homes, but the rest are available to purchase in person or online at Casa di LaValle in Seattle.
The paintings I’m working on now for my August and September show at Capers in West Seattle are also referencing this trip, especially the French Riviera.
These two paintings are still untitled at the moment, but I couldn’t resist a sneak peek.
In other international news, I’ve been binge watching lots of foreign language TV shows on Netflix this summer. Here are three of my favorites that I recently finished.
Another Self (Turkey)
Maestro in Blue (Greece)
Valeria (Spain)
Hope you’re having a great week. Don’t forget to take a photo walk through Paris with me!
xo,
Melanie
