A quick reminder for my Seattle friends — I’m sharing my art in Studio 15 at The Building TONIGHT, December 14th from 5-8pm as part of the West Seattle Art Walk. I would love it if you have a chance to stop by!

Inspiring Me Now
This morning I was looking at images of Merge, a moody abstract cityscape painting that I did in 2020. I remembered how much I loved creating the rectangular shapes with the rich, creamy oil paint using my palette knife. The warm browns, grays, and white are calling out to me right now, but I’m also loving the pops of yellow ochre and coral/vermillion red.
This summer I did a few paintings that used more geometric/square/rectangular shapes and I’m starting to feel a bit more of a pull toward a “new version” of my abstract cityscape style. Not necessarily by creating full-on abstract cityscapes again, but I feel like I want to revisit textured or impasto squares and rectangles in some upcoming compositions. I noticed that I especially love creating details where shapes meet. I’m excited to explore it!
That’s all the inspiration I have time to share today. I have to take my dog out and get ready for the art event. I live north of Seattle, so I’m planning on getting there earlier to beat rush hour traffic and take care of a few finishing touches. I’m feeling a little bit nervous (as I always do at things like this), but I’m excited too! Tomorrow I’m probably going to take the day off!
Hope you have a great rest of your week/weekend.
xo,
Melanie
